A BEGINNERS GUIDE TO TRAINING AT wta
If this is your first time walking into a fight gym, we understand if you’re not sure where to start. We answer plenty of the same questions every day. What do I wear to class? Which classes should I take? I have zero experience in combat sport is this gym for me? We have all the answers and then some. Here’s the down low:
what to wear to class
Honestly, just wear what makes you comfortable. Keeping in mind you’ll need to move around quickly and fluidly. Avoid anything restrictive. Many of our classes include kicks and some involve groundwork too. Bring your sweat towel, water bottle and face mask (as required) to class too.
what gear do i need?
16oz gloves, hand wraps and shin guards are a good place to start. We do have some communal gear available (subject to COVID-19 restrictions) however we recommend grabbing a fresh pair of your own.
what classes should i start with?
If you’re completely new to the sport, be sure to book into our basics classes. We’ll take you through all the basics of fighting from strike, to stance and the importance of working you inner fighter.
Stay busy with a mix of box fit, kick fit and self-defence if you’re just starting out. If you’re feeling confident, head to any one of our pads classes to start working in partners and trying your skills on the mits.

how soon can i fight?
We love how keen fighters are when they walk through our doors. If you wanna hit the ring pretty quick we suggest getting a solid month of training under your belt. This gives our head coaches a good chance to see your skills in action.
